BlackBerry Internet Service Outage (Day 3)

It’s been 3 days and the BlackBerry Internet Service in EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) crashed and RIM (Research In Motion) the company that runs the BlackBerry brand has been quiet about the issue. They have very little information out regarding the outage and when the outage will be resolved. Service Providers/Carriers have also been frantically trying to get more information from them in regards to the outage so they can update subscribers but not much has been said that’s not known. RIM claim a switch in the UK datacenter went ‘rogue’ and is causing all the issues with the service. I haven’t checked if subscribers on the BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Service) are also experiencing issues but the other million plus subscribers on the BIS platform are outraged.

In this technology era, we have become so dependent on constant internet connectivity so much that on day 3 of the outage we’re already experiencing withdrawal symptoms. For other people without other alternatives, this is quite a bummer. I have taken to my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7500) for my mobile connectivity. Although it won’t push emails to the device instantly, it will work for now… Until RIM sort out their issues.

I was actually tweeting earlier that Google should acquire RIM because RIM seems to be in trouble. Their share price has been plummeting at a rapid rate and even worse because shareholders seem to be jumping ship as well. Google has acquired Motorola and BlackBerry would be another strategic addition to their mobile portfolio which is seeing a lot of success with Android.

Day 3, still no internet but only via WiFi on the device. It looks like its going to be a long week. For those who use their BlackBerrys’ for business for both email and internet, they are suffering and should scramble to get an alternative for access.
